This haiku is my response to
Carpe Diem #1773 … A Field of Dried Grass (Basho),
which offers a haiku by Bashō (in blue) as inspiration.
Bashō’s is considered his Jisei no ku, or deathbed poem.
falling sick on a journey
my dream goes wandering
over a field of dried grass
Bashō (tr. Chèvrefeuille)
facing the unknown
dried grass near the end of life
how long this journey

I have to say, I really enjoy reading these takes/responses to classic haiku.

A thoughtful haiku, Ken. Sometimes the journey does seem very long.

Thank you, Merril. My mind certainly goes that way more, now, than it did 20 years ago.
