Still Cold
melting snow
in afternoon sun
nights still cold
breath in the crisp air
fogging my glasses
frosted panes
see only shadows
drifting by
waterfowl swimming
in ice-jammed river
dark shadows
stray geese overhead
seeking food
sparrows at feeder
still cold and hungry
This solo renga is my response to
Frank Tassone’s #Haikai Challenge #177: Still Cold.

Cinematic flow, KG. Well done!. Esp like the shift from foggy glasses to frosty panes.

Crisp yet shadowy–exactly. (K)

Thank you.
My first thought was of shadows on the ground cast by geese overhead – but that syllable limitation.

I love bird shadows too. OK I love everything about birds.

Conveys so much, the literal cold, the inner ice jam for me.

Thanks, Paul. The beauty of winter is my only consolation for all the rest.

The creek by me has only ever frozen over once in 30 odd years.
Our winters are generally milder. But this year we’ve had quite a bit of snow.
Nothing record breaking …yet.
Stay safe and warm.

Early spring for you. Our Ground Hogs had conflicting predictions 😉

Perfectly described. The days are getting longer, but it’s still cold.

Thank you.
And yes! The definite tell of a loose fitting mask is foggy glasses when walking outdoors.
