Serenity’s End
The heartache of our final moment shared,
at a distance greater with each passing second,
cannot be denied. You, nearing the horizon,
on a sea of sadness as I watch under a gray sky
bluer than any we have known together.
This is my response to Thursday Photo Prompt: Serenity #writephoto,
from Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo, with her photo.
Also shared with Open Link Night #273 at dVerse ~ Poets Pub.
When everything is colored blue and gray I wonder if I simply see the world through a veil of loss.

I had hoped to catch a hint of such a veil. Thank you, Björn.

Wow, such profundity in sadness and grief! It’s absolutely mesmerizing especially with “a sea of sadness…” You capture this feeling with the accentuation of contrasting colors such as blue and gray. An amazing piece and so solemn.

Thank you, Lucy. Rather than a sunrise, I saw the photo as a sunset and imagined it becoming only darker.

You captured the ‘sea of sadness’ in this poem, Ken, the grey and blue, and the thought of someone ‘nearing the horizon’ while we can only watch.

I’ve been there, hoping a final moment wasn’t so final. Fortunately, hindsight brings clarity.

I’m not in that place, fortunately, but when writing something like this I try to place myself there temporarily – reminding myself when I’m done that they’re only words.
Thank you, Pat.

In the words of the Bard, parting is such sweet sorrow. A touching piece indeed.

Writing to an image is always fun. The darkness you found, the sorrow, helps to illustrate how the blues got its name.
