Don’t Forget To…
Flush this memory from your mind,
this bomb shelter moment
when anyone at your door could be
a threat, the very air you breathe
the one thing you may not want
to breathe but must, when toilet paper
is the measure of your wealth.
This is my response to Quadrille #102: Don’t Forget To… —
the prompt from Mish at dVerse, which is to use the word flush
in a 44-word poem, with no required meter or rhyme.

Your last line is killer, it wiped me out. A very tidy quadrille, perfect for our times.

A good one Ken! Panic and fear create a lot of specters at the door!

Thanks, Dwight. It will be interesting to see how the door to door follow-up goes for the census.

Yes, or a measure of your luck.
It is the most deadly threat when so invisible and unpredictable.

Agreed. This is a time when caution is best. Thanks, Mish.

So true, Ken.
The bomb shelter reference makes me think of some old Twilight Zone episodes.

A verse for our times – I wonder what we’ll be like when this is over – when we come out from our bombshelters.

My grandmother always told me about cutting up newspaper for the outside toilet and the bomb shelter during the war. They never knew the luxury of toilet paper and we are going through the same thing now, ‘when toilet paper is the measure of your wealth’.
