Safe travels, Ken.
I’m so glad my mother-in-law no longer lives in Erie.

I passed on the travel this Christmas/New Year – our first “official” holiday season. I would have left here the day after Christmas – what a nice treat that would have been, driving through Erie the same day they had their big storm.

The photo was two years ago. My Buffalo holiday travel luck held out until that trip, and I hit a few lake effect storms from that point.

I thought perhaps you were traveling now. Probably a wise decision not to! ๐

You always seem to be on these long haul journeys. Wild horses wouldn’t drag me out in that! Family or no!

It’s a 900 mile/13+ hour drive, sometimes through different weather systems, that may have changes in fronts that can be unpredictable. Summer & into fall are the most reliable times for travel. Even then I’ve been caught in torrential downpours on 70 mph highways, driving 35-40 mph. Flying is definitely the way to go, but driving saves money plus no need for a rental car. If it was cross-country, 2500 miles I definitely would fly.

You have certainly inherited the pioneer spirit! I hate driving 70 miles into Bordeaux! It takes an hour and a half.

Even flying to Cleveland in winter (as I used to do to visit my parents) can be treacherous. And I do remember those drives between Cleveland and Canton. But…family. (K)

I’ve travelled in similar conditions on the way to family. I’d give the last few years of my life to have the family to again travel to visit. This is a lovely tanka.
