red meets dusky red
cardinal feeding its mate
new life beginning
This haiku is my response to Seeing Red!, from Sarah
in Poetics at dVerse Poets Pub.
April is National/Global Poetry Writing Month, and this also meets the Early Bird prompt at napowrimo.net, which is to write a poem about your favorite bird.
Just today I saw a gorgeous bright red cardinal enjoying seeds on my patio.

I see cardinals in my feeder. I think they’re nesting high in a cedar across the street from our house.

What a beautiful bird! We don’t really have anything like that over here. I love the two reds merging into one new life.

Thank you, Sarah. Male cardinals are know for feeding their mates.

Thanks Dwight. That’s a borrowed photo that I credited in a previous poem, but it’s now a dead link.

Wow, another quick brief poetic moment; terrific. Short but sweet seems to be the choice of the day out here on the trail. Boy is my face red, with my standard two-pager.

Ah, but you told quite a tale. 🙂

Nice earlybird jumpstart KG!
I’m thinking I might follow day-old prompts (like do the earlybird tomorrow, etc) and/or dip into some of the raw journalworks I mentioned last week, since I’m not nearly as spontaneous as I used to be, ought to be, or want to be these days.
Bright side: Solitary confinement due to the Plague. Plenty of time!
Hang in there!

A celebration of life continuing … beautiful! Spring rituals. We have a resident pair of cardinals, but I’ve not witnessed this feeding – great photo!

I saw a cardinal the other day, and I was strangely cheered–something about that bright red standing out on a gloomy day.

Love the image! I’ve always found it fascinating that in so many species, the male is the flamboyant one! No better example than the cardinal. 🙂

Wow!! These two were in my yard today!!! Weird, right! I wondered what was up with the less red one. I thought it might have been a younger version. Your poem fits the photo nicely.😊
