Concerning Matters Gray
The entrance to the maze
that holds the answers
to your questions,
if they’re the questions
I ask myself every waking day,
does not exist, unless you’re willing
to take what I say at face value,
considering this response comes
from the very maze you must enter.
Cup my face in your hands
and place your fingertips
against my temples, pressing
inward on both sides, simultaneously.
A brief whirring sound will commence
as my eyes glaze over.
Smack my forehead three times
with the heel of either hand
to reveal a hairline opening
at my hairline. Imagine that.
Firmly grasping a handful of hair,
lift the top of my skull to reveal
the very maze you must enter
to answer your question,
assuming it’s the same question
I ask myself every waking day.
Which do I put on first, slacks or socks?
Aren’t you glad you asked?
I wrote this last week for Meeting the Bar ~ On Nonsense, Narrative and Neologisms at dVerse ~ Poets Pub. Although it definitely is a bit of nonsense, I decided to hang on to it. Instead, I’ll share it with OpenLinkNight LIVE.
Oh, and if you have the opportunity to follow these instructions, pass. It’s a pretty scary place in there.

I got a kick out of this, Ken. For some reason, I thought of The Three Stooges. I guess in this case it would be me, myself, and I. Yuk yuk 😉

lol Thank you, Lisa.
Back when I lived in Buffalo, I’d go with my sons to a Stooge Festival at a local vaudeville-era theater. Several hundred people would be there, yukkin’ it up through a half-dozen Stooge movies.

My pleasure, Ken.
Oh wow, how cool is that. I know as a small child I used to get a real charge out of watching them.

Interesting. I never found them appealing as a child or adult.

I try to cling to my childish zaniness. (Without violence, of course!)

Delightful! Tempting … not expecting the actual question that you close with. Perhaps that will become a question? Perhaps I should start of list of Q&A to keep posted near the closet? And another sign somewhere to point me to the closet?

Thank you.
And yes. Just make sure there’s a light in the closet to help you find your way out.

This was fun, Ken. Wandering about in my mind is crazy enough–I’ll stay out of yours. 😀

I love how you weaved such a tale ending with such a trivial question kind of the opposite to what question to fit answer 42… 🙂

Thank you. I’ll leave the heavy lifting to the professionals.

The next question would be… How do you know when you have a sock on the correct foot? 😉

This is so strange and wonderful and I suspect you put on socks first, but I don’t judge if I’m wrong! 😆

This makes me think of the metaverse for some reason. But we don’t really have to travel that far–our own minds are confusing enough! (K)

Thank you. 🙂
And that reminds me of the daily course of things 60 years ago, when my mother would darn socks. Times sure have changed.

HaHa…Ken. I was going in deep and then was so surprised!! And then I thought about the question and tried to answer it myself and realized that it really depends on the day 😉
Hope you are well!

I believe it’s determined by what is colder at the moment – the legs or the feet. 😉 Interesting write, Ken.
