Five and Counting
Yesterday’s internet outage was brief – less than two hours after the snowplow broke the “temporary” cable lying in the street near my house, the cable was replaced. With all of our calls about lost service in the last month, it appears we have been made a priority for repair.
A phone call to the city’s Streets Department was met with sympathy, but, “That’s between you and the cable company. The streets need to be plowed.”
And the snowplow struck again this morning.

My new SIM card, which will allow me to switch to T-Mobile with unlimited data (at a savings) will arrive today. Just in time. Verizon has notified me that, with two days left in my billing cycle, I’m about to go over my data allowance, which is no surprise since this snowplow/cable situation has forced me to burn data on my phone.
And yes, this blog was uploaded from my phone.

yes, for the first time in 6 years – but, as always, it melted over the course of the day, as it rained. our winters are generally rainy – not snowy.

Missouri may be known as “The Show Me State,” but ever since I moved here, my wife has been telling me that everyone here knows the state motto is “It could be worse.”

Ha, Ha that’s s funny. Sounds like true grit is a requirement to live there. But it does sound like it’s wide open spaces are a plus.

Aarghhh! Let us know how your T-Mobile works out.
And keep us posted as the count goes up … seems likely the snowplows will keep coming for a while yet … and that burying the cable won’t happen in frozen ground … ??

I stopped to talk to a neighbor shoveling his driveway and asked what he uses for internet. Century Link – it’s DSL with a decent download rate, but nothing like I have with cable through Mediacom. The temporary orange Mediacom cable runs right past his house to connect to the green box on his neighbors lawn. Not realizing that the temp. cable is Mediacom, he said he considering going with something more reliable, like Mediacom. I suggested he might want to wait until that cable is buried!

A frustrating situation for sure. We have been fairly fortunate just having a day and half of outage recently due to something being knocked over by a plow.

I’m hoping for resolution in the spring, when they can bury the cable.
