Lost Sunrise
This is not how we would have it
This expectant pause before a new sunrise
The silence is ours alone, as in that of absence,
One long lost, victim of our presence
If we were here to witness we would hear
The wakening of a hope that is not ours to share
As the sun would slowly melt a morning mist
So, too, would time erase our mark
Easing the scars we’ve inflicted
Traces of our past a mystery
Leaving others to imagine
Our dream of a new sunrise
This is my response to Thursday Photo Prompt: Dance #writephoto
at Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo, with her photo.
I like the last phrase, Ken, which changes the whole tone of the poem.

‘Poignant’ is so overused, but it seems the best word I can find for this alchemy of emotions, Ken.

Thank you, Sue. Usually, I’m satisfied when I finish a poem. (Of coursed, “finished” means something completely different when writing to meet a prompt.) Regardless of the doom it notes for mankind, I was very pleased on completing this one.

Interesting flow of ideas and yes the change of tone. I like the concept and so many sunrises are lost!

Thank you. Yes, they are, but many more sunrises to come, hopefully.

Explicitly real … especially these lines:
“As the sun would slowly melt a morning mist
So, too, would time erase our mark
Easing the scars we’ve inflicted”
For the planet’s sake, I embrace this vision.
For my personal sake, I hope to someday (in some other form) look down, nodding, acknowledging my part back-when in the scarring, my departure among many a part of the restoration.
For right now, I strive to stay open to new and better ways to live on this planet.

The scars are deep…and that absence follows us around. Will we get what we deserve? Will the earth, will life? (K)

Sadly, I imagine a hundred years from now with nature confined to preserves.

Hope is the light that lingers in the ever changing present that leaves behind a history of doom like this pandemic has left in its path. Very well written! 🙂
