Selling Out
I browse,
read the news feed,
but I’m not buying it.
The words that fall
out of their mouths express
concern for the loss of life.
Of course it’s senseless.
Even more senseless
is their insistence
that more guns
will make it go away.
This is my response to Quadrille #153: Out of the Meadow’s Browse, the prompt from Sarah at dVerse ~ Poets Pub, which is to use a form of the word browse in a 44-word poem (excluding title), with no required meter or rhyme.
Image: a 16 May 2022 tweet (now deleted) posted by Daniel Defense,
manufacturer of the gun used to kill 19 children and 2 teachers in Uvalde, Texas.
The tweet also quoted Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Yeah, making semiautomatic weapons readily available to all and sundry has worked out well so far.

agreed. It’s the potentially dangerous human,
who resorts to the use of a weapon for the sake of evil,
that needs to be redeemed, before committing the crime
in the first place.

That voice of reason is sadly silent where it would really count.

The hypocrisy makes me so angry–
ban books, control women’s bodies, but don’t touch the guns because that’s a freedom.

Control as a priority, misapplied in all cases.

More guns, make our schools fortresses, impossible to exit in case of fire, etc. The words from their mouths infuriate me. Well done, Ken.

Well put. Unfortunately, most politicians are heavily influenced by donations … and the NRA “owns” quite a few politicians who insist mass shootings are not an indication of too many guns or too-lenient qualifications to own. [NRA wants to sell more …]

I hate that idea because it’s so clearly stupid and unfounded. Not even possibly a solution.

At the very least, no such weapons to anyone under 21! We also need attentive fathers, intact families, and an end to bullying.

And if you look at accidents and suicide the benefit of guns can really be questioned… I can see a use for hunting … period.

The specious excuses that come from gun advocates are totally ignore the facts.

Sadly here, when it comes to meaningful reform, their lips move, but nothing comes out.
Thank you, Ingrid.
