your mate with just a blush of red
never far from your side
in your brilliance
cardinal or otherwise
there is no sin in your presence
This gogyohka is my response to Colleen’s #TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge No. 255: #Tastetherainbow, in which we are to use the syllabic form of our choice with
a color of our choice.
I love to watch and see the cardinal pair call to one another.

I love the use of “blush” here. It could simply refer to a touch of color or the act of blushing. Well done, Ken! 🙂

Ken, this gogyohka is stunning, along with the images. I read somewhere that cardinals mate for life. The male makes a big deal out of feeding the female when they are courting. They are one of my favorite birds. I’ve not seen any in my neighborhood, but I bet they’re there. ❤

Cardinals are VERY attentive of their female mates. It’s really very astonishing. The “perfect husband” or partner. 😉

A wonderful poem Ken! I love the wordplay as well as the gentle capture of these amazing creatures. They are truly delightful and fascinating. All the best for the new year 🙂

Thank you. Sometimes the male will watch as the female sits at the feeder, almost like keeping guard.

How lovely to have such beauty in your backyard. The best we can expect here among the gulls is a magpie or two. 😊

Currently, most frequent at our feeder are chickadees and tufted titmice.
Thank you.
