The Unwinding
There is a tale
wound around, through,
nearly silent moments.
Understanding, knowing.
More than passion,
though it has its place.
Cherry wine, chocolate,
the look in your eyes
as poetry leaves my lips.
Our tale, told in a whisper
and heard by your heart.
This poem is my response to What’s in a word?, the prompt from Lillian at dVerse ~ Poets Pub, which is to use a form of the word wound in a quadrille, a 44-word poem, with no required meter or rhyme.
I am reminded of this poem, from my very early days at WordPress.
I think there are moments when a whisper is perfectly loud… that’s love.

I like the assonance of ‘wound around’ and the hard alliteration in the final line: the gentleness of a whisper and the earnestness of love.

Thank you, Ingrid.
When writing, I usually surprise myself with both, only noticing them once I’m finished.

Well if you were here sitting near me, you would have heard a loud sigh from me as I finished reading this. This is absolutely deliciously romantic!

I love the different sounds in this poem, Ken: the silent moments and a whisper, the effective use of assonance in ‘wound around’, and the way passion is linked with cherry wine and chocolate.

I really like this opening line,
“There is a tale
wound around, through,
nearly silent moments.”
The connection between us
felt without words, held by shared stories.
