Time and Love as One
Two become one,
and the world is witness to
the marriage of Time and Love.
It is the nature of Love,
that it will always court Time.
It is the nature of Time,
that it will always test Love.
You will know Time,
as you have known Love.
Vow to ensure that Time
will honor Love into the future.
Let both bind your hearts as one.
This poem is my response to Day 25 at napowrimo.net, where the challenge is to write
a poem that is written for an occasion – a wedding, a birth, etc..

Jeepers, Ken, again so wise! I could actually “hear” this being said in a marriage ceremony! Beautiful!

Thank you, Lynne.. 🙂
This is distilled from a poem I wrote in 1998 – again for an occasion – for my sister’s and brother-in-law’s anniversary (15th, maybe). I’ve written a hell of a lot more since then, and (like many of us) my sense of writing and style has evolved/refined, so It took a little more than changing the tense to fit the idea of a wedding.
What the heck, I’ll include the original here…
Two
Two become one,
and once more
the world is witness to
the marriage of Time and Love.
A union that spans the ages,
it is forever to be repeated.
For it is the nature of Love,
that it will always court Time.
And so it is that the ages are
the measure of that union.
For it is the nature of Time,
that it will always test Love.
You will know Time,
as you have known Love.
They will serve to
bind your hearts as one.
Vow to ensure that Time
will honor Love into the future,
theirs is a delicate balance,
when two become one.

Though I like the original (1998), I especially feel and love the potency of your distilled version. Thanks for including both!

This makes me think of the Laura Nyro song…”nothing cures like time and love”. (K)
