Productive Reality ~ ekphrastic poem ~ with audio

Productive Reality

Productive RealityExpand your mind. Suspend
disbelief and bring relief. Seize
that fine line between yesterday
and tomorrow. This moment,
any moment, is yours to uncover.
Whatever you find, wherever
you find it, you’ll still be here
when you get there; always
be there, even when you return.

The deeper you go the more
you’ll know. With no load
to carry, the world is in your hands.
Experience sonic expansion.
More than memory, the mansion
of your mind is a palace, no less
than the world that surrounds you.
More than you know,
and more than that, awaits you.

This ekphrastic poem is my response to Day One at napowrimo.net, where the prompt is to write a poem inspired by the animated version of “Seductive Fantasy”, by The Sun Ra Arkestra.

  1. What a wonderful reflective post! I especially like these words:
    “More than memory, the mansion
of your mind is a palace, no less
than the world that surrounds you.”
Now that is affirmation of the self!

    • Thank you, Lillian.
If we take the time to notice the world around us, in each moment, any of the elements of the moment have potential significance to us, making us a part of that world – even if viewed from a distance, however great or small. Exploring those elements is the key.

  2. I recognised the prompt without seeing the graphics or the animation, Ken. You really captured it in your poem. I love the internal rhyming of ‘Suspend disbelief and bring relief’ – a mantra for our time!

  3. “Whatever you find, wherever you find it, you’ll still be here when you get there;” Another way of saying wherever you go there you are. So true. Great write.

  4. A “productive” post – thank you for the delightful reading – especially like: “With no load to carry, the world is in your hands” – there for our caresses, much like a devoted pet … or perhaps the reverse, the world stroking each of us as its pet? Either way, to touch w/o having to lift/hold. Beautiful.
