pebble sinks
as water rises
spring rain continues
another pebble
falls from my fingers
This tanka is my response to Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Swirling – March 25th, 2021 which asks that we respond with any variation of the the prompt and/or image (above)
– and –
to MTB: Coming full circle, the prompt from Peter Frankis at dVerse ~ Poets Pub,
which asks that we write a poem that circles around
with a repeat or variation of the opening line.

Impressively concise, yet meeting the brief so beautifully.

I was thinking about a tanka too Ken- and this one’s a beauty – movement and circularity – and there’s stillness and maybe even eternity in there too. Wonderful stuff. I’ve been reading Issa lately – so here’s his…

Beautiful! I was conversing with Frank about his post https://beachwalkreflections.wordpress.com/2021/03/25/55-stones/ and how I have always felt a pebble or a polished stone has an aura of mystery from a far away land. Beautiful take on the prompt and thank you for joining in.

Any time I visit my family in western New York, I try to make it to Lake Ontario, where I look for beach glass and worn stones.

Before I moved to Missouri and we were together permanently, I found a heart-shaped stone that I gave to my (now) wife.

This is a lovely tanka, Ken. Full somehow of movement and stillness, and time and timelessness.

Thank you, Merril.
I like to think of this as a moment frozen in time, yet part of a continuum.. One frame in an endless reel.

I like how you constructed this, but it also brought back some memories of doing just that.

And doing that is an immersion in the moment, isn’t it?
Thank you, Paul.

Sounds about right for spring. I can see the imageries playing throughout my mind of such rain. Beautifully penned!

Love the poem! Really do, had a sly chuckle though because I thought of the Congressman from my district 🤦🏻♀️

The thought of sitting there by the pond and letting one pebble after the other drop into the water is very meditative…. love it.

Thank you. Ironically, it may cause a minor disruption, but it can have a calming effect.

Yesterday I was gifting stale bread to the fish in the creek…
I enjoy watching the ripples the fish make when they come up from underneath. 😀
