The Night Is Ours
and the morning
waking beside each other
sun and moon in an embrace
from horizon to horizon
proximity a measure of
darkness and light
the mere sight of one by the other
a shared light, free of shadow
I found this poem in my “Unfinished” folder, in four drafts dating from June 2020 through August 2020. I’m sure it was inspired by something I read on WordPress, but I just can’t place it. I think it makes a good counterpoint to yesterday’s poem.

So much good stuff comes from plumbing the Works-In-Progress File, eh? Yours is a perfect example. Nice write, Ken.

Thanks, Ron. It’s easier to be objective with time. Maybe if I’d left some kind of note I’d know what this poem was waiting for. Maybe just to be rediscovered.

I love this! There is something so romantic about seeing the sun and moon in the sky together “an embrace from horizon to horizon.”

Thank you. I remember thinking about sunrise and sunset, with the two on their respective horizons.

Would love to find a wall hanging with that image – perhaps in a greyish clay – to add to our collection of suns and moons. Gary is a Leo. I’m a Cancer. He came with quite a few wall-hangings of suns and a couple of moons … which added to my many moons and a couple of suns yielded us a living room with a wall of suns facing a wall of moons.
This poem is a keeper, too – “shared light, free of shadow” might be the ultimate metaphor for a well-matched couple!

Thank you, Jazz. 🙂

I found a similar graphic, added it to Hokusai’s Wave, and had it made as a 3 ft. wide banner to hang at our outdoor wedding at the Presque Isle lighthouse. It now hangs over our fireplace.

This is romantic, and, I would say, sexy… but sexy in a very, very loving way.

It is a complement to the previous day’s poem, in the sense of completion. It has a satisfied, contented feel, without being complacent. A true love poem.

Ken, maybe you don’t need to know where it came from. It must be from within you. The sheer the sheer vastness and togetherness speak with
Beauty.
