Eyes Glued, Ears Tuned
Words, images burned
into my mind, unimaginable
events relived. Lives lost
remembered. A nation’s memory
on trial, broadcast to that nation.
Who could turn their backs
on facts that can not be denied?
A dethroned man who would be king,
insurgents inspired by his words,
incitement of treason reasoned
by one who should have lead,
but who, instead, must be found guilty of
the treason he so unreasonably fomented.
Yet, impeachment seems out of reach
in those halls that were fractured
long before that fracture laid upon it
by words and actions witnessed by a nation.
This poem may be scant on details, but I believe it presents a time and a place as prompted by Grace with Meeting the Bar: Setting at dVerse ~ Poets Pub.

It makes up in emotion what it lacks in physical detail.

I like your rhyming that weaves throughout. I watched Colbert’s monologue from yesterday and hear the Republican senators are tuning it all out as the impeachment trial continues. They need to be held accountable as much as the orange stain.

Thank you, Lisa. Yes, they do. I imagine a conviction if this were a close voted, but the Republicans are too worried about Trump’s base. The base of the man who is guilty of the charges.

I considered writing about this too, but couldn’t get a handle on it. You did a marvelous job of recreating the situation, and the setting is implied in the Now. Your vocalization helped immensely for me.

Thanks, Glenn. As compelling as the evidence is, I don’t have much hope for a conviction.

The stage setting is the Capitol which automatically puts anything but playacting out of its reach. Alas.

Congress has been a stage for years, both Senate and Congress. I don’t see that ending any time soon.

Your reading is heart felt and I can feel your emotions from the audio. How sad the state of affairs; but really I am happy to read that you have Biden & Harris at the White House. How much have changed (but not really), these last weeks and I am very hopefuly for your country.

No further details needed for any of us who’ve been paying any attention to current events in the Capitol.
Your title captures the majority experience. The dumbstruck “party-members” caught between fear of retaliation and truth are choosing to cover their eyes and ears, push reality over a cliff of denial. The rest of us clearly SEE them, HEAR them.

Thanks, Jazz. The whole thing is both bind-bending & mind-blowing.

As if I wasn’t already 1000% in accord with your analysis, being glued to the TV these past few day has vastly increased that accord (as if an increase were possible). Well, doneKen.

Thanks, Ron. If only our votes counted in this process.

It is hard listening, watching as that day, images of that man play over and over and over. But watch and listen we must. Great write.

Thank you, Helen. The whole process is a testament to the divide in this country.

I think you’ve captured an important moment in time Ken. ‘those halls that were fractured
long before that fracture laid upon it’ – absolutely this is how it seems. I hope he is impeached so he can never stand again.

Thank you, Ingrid. Partisanship is blamed as a motive for this impeachment, but it also acts to blind those on the other side.

You’ve captured the sordid setting well. I hope at least the God they always invoke provides proper justice. (K)

Yes, the frustration of the evidence and the obvious being ignored, just out of reach.

The setting will forever be remembered in infamy! I wonder how those senators who would vote not to impeach will explain their actions to their children and grandchildren!

Very well said Ken. You have captured the events and you portray the emotions of a majority. Sadly those senators will acquit him. Our only hope for justice is the Southern District of New York. I hope they are waiting to pounce once this verdict is out of the way.

Yes, to New York, and add the state of Georgia.

Oh yes! Georgia too ☺️👍

You’ve captured this well, Ken. It was a horrifying event, and now we know that most of the GOP Senators are spineless Trump toadies.
