Rising Tides

Rising Tides

Waves of emotion that cannot be denied,
any more than the clear light from your eyes,
are the voice of the stars absorbed by the sea.

No island patch of floating plastic, no detraction,
these waves are the very ocean itself,
the heat of my love for you held in each wave.

This poem is my response to Poetics: Beginning at the End, the prompt form from Laura at dVerse ~ Poets Pub, which asks us to use one of five closing lines of poetry to write a poem “as continuation where the poet left off, thematically, in the same mood, rather than literally.” I have chosen “So close that your sea rises with my heat,” from Love in a Time of Climate Change by Craig Santos Perez.

The original poem by C. Perez can be read at Poetry Foundation.

  1. “No island patch of floating plastic, no detraction, these waves are the very ocean itself, the heat of my love for you held in each wave,”.. this is beyond beautiful! 😀
