The Third of November
In a vigil to rival All Hallows’ Eve,
skulls of saints will scream in agony
at the slime pigments cast upon
election results by the fool
known as The Clown in Chief
as he casts his scepter as a crown.
The pellucid quest that follows
will underscore the truth
buried by the dim accuracy
of his claims of victory,
granting the solitudes wish
of the multitudes upon his soul.
This poem is my response to Poetics: The charms of Samuel Greenberg, the prompt from Laura at dVerse ~ Poets Pub, which is to write a poem using five of these phrases
from Samuel Greenberg’s “The Pale Impromptu”:
Dim Accuracy ~ Candle salve ~ Consumed moon
Eyes jealousy ~ Fouls deviation ~ Grey life
Hearts brow ~ Lucid farrows ~ Nulling marrows
Painted mirth ~ Pale heat ~ Palmed rose
Pearls from tissue ~ Pellucid quest ~ Royal flesh
Skulls of saints ~ Slime pigments ~ Spiritual songs
Solitudes wish ~ Times chant ~ Yellow dreams
I have used dim accuracy, pellucid quest, skulls of saints,
slime pigments, and solitudes wish.

Your choices fit very well with the subject of your poem. Well done Ken!

I’m impressed by how you were able to make this a poem about cheeto the clown. The slime pigments fit perfectly! Very clever ending. Did you see the superman movie where the villains were locked in a dimensional prison and shot out into space? A fitting solitude for him.

I like how you’ve woven Greenberg’s words into a political poem: it’s hard to read the phrase ‘slime pigments’ and not think of the Clown in Chief.

Crikey this is a far cry from Greenberg but since Impromptu means ‘reminiscent of an improvisation’ I can only say Bravo!.

With so much early voting taking place, instead of calling Nov. 3 Election Day, they’re now calling it The Last Day of Voting – but you’re right this won’t be over for a long time.

This is absolutely brilliant. I love that you went political and the fact that the charms work in favor of the emotions portrayed here. Fingers crossed for the outcome of the election. 💝

Whoa! You nailed it with this one! Wonder what the outcome will be. As far as I’m concerned it ain’t over, till it’s over.

Thanks, Pat. And we’ll be lucky if this one is over before Inauguration Day.
