Just as Bright

Who could know the blanket of stars
wrapt round us on our first night together,
so tight they shone in your eyes and mine
as we strolled through Millennium Park,
would bind us, still, these many years later?
Shine they do, just as bright.

This is my response to Quadrille #113: Blanket Us,
the prompt from Merril at dVerse Poets Pub,
which is to use a form of the word blanket in a 44-word poem,
with no required meter or rhyme.

    • We met at a weekend meetup of online friends in Chicago in June – poetry, blues, and a river tour of the city’s architecture. By August we knew we had to see each other (Oh, the madness of Skype!), so our first time as a couple was a five-day Labor Day weekend, going back to Chicago for the Jazz Festival. The next summer, I moved to Missouri to be with her, and we made a trip back to the Jazz Festival. The bulk of the Festival takes place at Chicago’s waterfront parks, Grant Park and Millennium Park, where the photo was taken.

    Certainly for love sustains for it knows no bounds. The beauty of your poem is that it invokes the memories that come with it. Wonderful write, Ken!

    • Thank you, Laura.
      I think I wrote close to a hundred love poems in the nine months prior to my move to be with her. I may not have kept up that pace (if so, there would be a thousand more), but I do still find inspiration.
