As the Stars Would Have It
The sky has been ours
from the moment we met
Whispered words of light
in vision and dreams
Blue nebulae in the dark of night
Embrace of sun and moon
I in your orbit, you in mine,
just as the stars would have it
This is my response to Quadrille #112: The Sky’s the Limit,
the prompt from De Jackson at dVerse Poets Pub,
which is to use a form of the word sky in a 44-word poem,
with no required meter or rhyme.
Image: the banner from our wedding,
held on the lawn of the lighthouse at Presque Isle, Erie, Pennsylvania
How beautiful, Ken. Wise ones, those stars.

Thank you. I managed to get the tree elements I wanted into it – Hokusai’s “The Great Wave of Kanagawa,” the sun/moon graphic that I found, and an image of the lighthouse below the wave. It took a long time to get the boats out of The original of The Great Wave.

I should have enlarged the photo. I thought that was a lighthouse but then the thought passed. Very cool.

I love this quadrille, Ken, especially the lines:
‘I in your orbit, you in mine,
just as the stars would have it’.
She’s a lucky woman!

Ooh, I love this. Such a beautiful, romantic poem. It gives the sense and imagery of being above the universe, looking at the stars. A very stunning and visceral write.

Hi Ken! This is something I need to share with my fellow writers here at dVerse. I so enjoy reading the work that you create and post, and am genuinely honored to be embraced as a part of this community of poets. May we all find healing in these challenging times. And as a true aquarian love child, and also a proud flower child of the 60’s, who truly believed then we would some day change the world to be a better place for all, and still believes that we might yet do it — I wish each of you peace, health, and love. Write on!

Nicely done – I particularly liked ‘I in your orbit, you in mine’ – reminded me a bit of John Donne’s The Sun Rising – a romantic meditation on skies and stars.
