My poem, “If Only” is featured today with other selections for Ekphrastic Writing Responses: Jose Ferraz de Almeida Junior. The inspiration for the challenge is the artist’s painting “Model’s Rest.”
My thanks go to Lorette C. Luzajic, Editor at The Ekphrastic Review, for including my poem.

And a fine work it is, too, Ken.
If only creativity were contagious….

Thank you, Ron. I wonder about that. The writers I’ve met here certainly have inspired.

I like your take …
Curious painting … the painter would’ve had both those figures posing for hours … makes me wish for yet a broader level image of THAT scene. Makes me wish I could sketch!

Thank you, Jazz. My first thought was of a musical “rest,” so I wanted to hint at that. But then I got to thinking about what an artist (painter) appreciates and how we might assume it’s composition or visual beauty when it could be something altogether different.

I’ve just seen your poem, Ken, and it’s my favourite of those published. As I scrolled down, I thought, this is a good one. I liked the run on from the title, and it’s short, to the point, intelligible, and lyrical. Then I saw who wrote it 🙂

🙂 Thank you, Jane. It’s interesting that a couple went into the artist’s life for their poems, but my choice (so far, I think) is to “read” the art and try to “translate” the image.

I always understood that that was how ekphrastic inspiration worked. Otherwise, you don’t need the painting, just the bio 🙂

Well done Ken! It was an interesting painting to write from. Aw the inspiration of waiting between notes! Beautiful.
