Mmm, Apple Pie!
Slim blade slides over, under.
Outer layer pared away
in one long strip, baring the soul,
the essence within, unraveling
a lifetime about to be reborn,
a new life waiting to be savored.
This poem is my response to dVerse Poetics: Apple!
at dVerse Poets Pub, where Anmol is the host.
love your layers here, surreal and true!

Fabulous. (And now I think I’ll go eat an apple … no pie available!)

Unless they’re cooked, I’m allergic – peaches, pears, apples, cherries, nuts. My throat tightens and my ears itch. It started when I was a teenager. I recently figured out that I have oral allergy syndrome.
The proteins in certain foods have a similarity to some pollens. Apparently, for me it’s birch (to which I didn’t realize I was allergic). That group has the potential to include potatoes, carrots and bananas, but I can eat those with no problem.
However, I can slice an apple, sprinkle a little sugar on it, and then microwave it. Also, I’ve experimented enough to find an apple cake that I really like. Nuts that are roasted pose no problem. Just baking raw chopped walnuts into that apple cake works fine.
And of course, there’s my rotating favorite – apple, peach or cherry pie.

You have just made a case for keeping a microwave handy!

Ken, I both smile and am in awe of this poem which brings us from a
delicious apple pie to our life.
Love the ending” a lifetime waiting to be born
a new life waiting to be savoured”.

There’s a chilly undertone to this one. I’m not sure how much the apples appreciate being peeled so we can rebirth them.

Peeling, baking. A Poe scenario with Vincent Price as the baker.

That is more or less what came to mind…

I fell asleep thinking about an apple peel that was one long strand. When I awoke I was thinking about a mummy as it unravels, which of course, introduced a dark side, so I made the graphic to hint at that.

Of course! Macabre indeed.

For an apple, it must be terrifying to be approached by the paring knife.

Ah yes, but sparing it the sight of a gaping mouth.
