March arrives
denying winter
brings no change
I was well into my thirties before I accepted that my early March birthday is not in the spring.
I dislike winter that much, although I actually saw one budding tree while kayaking on Sunday, so Missouri does offer that over Western New York. (* click image *)
This short-form senryū is my response to Colleen’s Weekly #Tanka Tuesday
#Poetry Challenge No. 167, #Poet’sChoice.
Ummm… Happy birthday?

Close, but I’ll take it. 😉

Excellent Senryu, Ken. My birthday is well into April and I always felt that way too. As a child in Wisconsin, we usually had a snowstorm to celebrate my birthday. LOL! 😀

Thank you, Colleen. Here in Missouri, freezing rain is more common than snow. Then there are the times that it snows on the frozen roads. I’m glad it’s winding down – for now. Sixties this week, but who can tell after that.

It’s been a chilly winter in Arizona as well. I’m at the far western edges of Phoenix. Plenty of sunshine and great temps now. 😀

I do hope the snow starts melting soon. 🙂

Sixties here this week, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t have snow before winter is over.

We had a few nice days then it snowed yesterday and again this morning. We’ll have to be patient 🙂

Happy Birthday, Ken! This has been a far warmer than usual winter in Texas – our poppies have begun popping and yet I know there is a possibility of a freeze yet – yikes! Winter is not to be underestimated!!

Thanks! So true. I have photos of a birthday here with 6 inches of snow. Even here, you never know what to expect in March.

🙂 I couldn’t get close enough to tell what that tree was, but the budding leaves seemed red.

Happy Birthday, Ken. Last year March here was cold and blustery, but it is really starting to look like spring now. I hope your day is or will be spring-like. 🙂

Thank you, Merril. It’s been very spring-like this pasty week.
