Known, All Along
Would I peel back the layers,
only to find what I’ve known
all along? Never, the need for that,
when knowing your many sides
is what makes you so dear to me.
To have my heart held within
those layers is more than enough
This is my response to Quadrille #98: Peelings… Nothing More —
the prompt from Mish at dVerse, which is to use the word peel
in a 44-word poem that does not require meter or rhyme.

I know I’ve been absent for awhile, probably since before the holidays. Routines shift. Sometimes I think I spend too much time on WP, but then I realize what I’m missing when I trim that time.

That’s a very gentle interpretation. Peeling back does sound barbaric, and not what we want to subject a loved one too.

I think of it more as knowing the many sides of a person – mother/father, lover, the strength or tenderness.

Sounds like a warm and cozy place to be, held in the layers of another’s heart.

Discovery may be a better term than peeling back.

Does one ever peal back the layers of another?

Think of it as discovering the different sides/aspects/qualities of another.

I like the ambiguity of layers, Ken, and the tenderness of your quadrille, especially:
‘To have my heart held within
those layers is more than enough’.

I think we need to refrain from peeling sometimes. There is a comfort in trust.

I like this – how it endorses complexity w/o needing to disassemble the parts.

I am always interested in all the layers of a person…I find it fascinating, actually. A tender and comforting poem.
