This list poem is my response to What day is it anyway? from Sarah at dVerse Poets Pub, where the prompt is to choose a day, then write a poem about the way that day feels to you.
Any day in the life of a retiree
Sleep in
Coffee
Watch the bird feeder
Breakfast
Read the news
More coffee
Read poetry
Watch the bird feeder
Housework
Write poetry
Go kayaking
Watch the bird feeder
Go hiking and take photos
Fill the bird feeder
Grocery shopping
Check
Check
Check
Check
Check
Check
Check
Check
Check
Check
Wait, that’s tomorrow.
Check

Or was that yesterday?
What day is it anyway?
Isn’t every day Saturday?
Aaahhhhhhhhh …
(Actually a little more complicated … weeds to pull, trash&recycles to the curb, trips to vet, dermatologist, ENT, etc. … live music! That one keeps me checking my calendar.)

And more time to do it. (Although, it never seems to be enough.)

Except for the kayaking for me, you’ve got it nailed Ken. Ah, the retired life!

I can walk the same trail and see a “new” photo, almost any time.

Many of us in this fab group are retired, and the Saturday theme floated large out on the trail. I loved the creativity of your format; list poems rock.

I love this… seems like you live a comforting life… but I hope you take the kayak out tomorrow and don’t get stuck with the birdfeeder

🙂 Thank you. As gray and stark as the landscape can be in January and February, the flashing red of a woodpecker or the the blue of a kingfisher along the shore is all the more rewarding.

My life as a freelancer was just like that too…except substitute work for some of the items every day of the week. Going to school or an office defines life in a way that doesn’t exist when you don’t have to do a certain thing or be a certain place at any particular time. You’ve really captured that feeling. On the other hand I was much more productive working at home…(K)

My son occasionally works from home and says it frees him from distractions, but says that even making his first-half day at home gives him flexibility in scheduling meetings.

Sounds like days I now long for. I’ll get there soon, I hope. Nicely written.
