shared emotion
thought, emotion
in a relay race
through body and mind
each lap igniting sparks
firing across synapses
instantaneous
love
spoken, unspoken
thought, emotion
facing a tsunami of
words
inundating
slowly seeping away
leaving behind
sodden ash
heartbreak
thought, emotion
in a dull glow
re-firing to
recover
bridge a gap
reconnect
commune with
the outside world
“shared emotion” originally appeared at bonnie mcclellan’s weblog
during International Poetry Month 2017, where the theme was
“Neural Networks: The Creative Power of Language.”
Enjoyed hearing your recital, Ken!

This one stirs up a few thoughts and emotions! I like the 3 stanza “stages” that carry through time, through the changes. I also like the title’s subtle ambiguity … sharing between two people? … within, between rational and emotional sides of self?
(GREAT read.)

Thank you. 🙂
Yes, “stages” fits, and I would say between two people, initially, but the idea of a back-and-forth hand-off between emotion and rational thought while working through those stages was what I had in mind. So, yes, again. 🙂

Hearing you read your poem showed the rhythm and lyricism. I like the way it ends as it goes beyond closure to a new healthy beginning.
