red leaf of dogwood
brilliant yellow of maple
shadows dance with light

So pretty! Dancing with light is a good way of describing what they do.

Thank you, Merril. I’ve been carrying that line in my head since my hike through a forest on the 5th. The timing was just right for colors. The hills, bluffs, and valleys around here seem to create scattered areas when it comes to leaf change. The week before, I was on a trail 50 miles south of here, and I was a week late for much of the color there.

I’m glad you found that line–and that it stayed with you!
