fireworks at midnight
pop and crackle of thunder
wet grass in morning
a break in temperature
a cardinal’s morning call
I woke shortly after midnight to the rapid sound sound of thunder
that could have passed for The 1812 Overture.
This tanka pretty much wrote itself.
We had ominous skies but no rain to break the heat. Perhaps today…(they’ve promised!) (K)

Everything is wet, here. It’s not like we’ve had a drought, considering our very wet spring & early summer, but this rainfall puts a dent into the deficit of the past month. Our typical high humidity as been missing, the past couple of weeks. We also have a week of below avg. temps coming to counter our recent string of above avg. days.

Finally got our storm last night! And it’s cooler too.

Love this one! Maybe if I read it aloud to tonight’s sky it willbe flattered and offer a similar concert in Texas?? Surely worth a try …

Thanks. 🙂
If so, let me know, and I’ll pass it on the NWS. 😉

Strong image and feeling. Sometimes I miss the power of weather. Everything is usually so bland here this time of year. A little too warm, sometimes, but usually boring. Thunderstorms occasionally over the mountains, too far away to rumble here on the coast, and only the towering white thunderheads in the distance hint at lightning and fire danger.

Thanks, Daniel.
Of course, the ocean is fair compensation.
