Different Drummer
You hear the beat,
but do not follow,
your voice your own,
in a world where too many
let others speak without
questioning the merits
of a drumbeat too often
exclusionary, delusion
carried to extremes,
out of step with reality,
right to the end.
This is a response to Quadrille #85 – Raising our Poetic Voices, the prompt from De Jackson at dVerse, which is to use the word voice in a 44-word poem that does not require meter or rhyme.

I can feel that drumbeat. Well done.

You know how it is when you read something, and you know what it’s supposed to say, so that’s what it says. I really appreciate that you caught that for me. Thanks!

Too extreme views, I would not listen to the voice. I really like: your voice your own,

Ken, this is powerful. My favorite line- ‘delusion carried to extremes’- seems to be a lot of that these days.

I often walk to my own beat, finding my own voice, my own drum. A powerful poem that speaks volumes.

Those who gather the disillusioned to feed on false promises of a brighter future at the expense of others, should be pilloried.

They should, and worse. I’m beginning to think that the disillusioned who lap up the false promises, follow, and don’t get what they were promised should be pilloried with their false prophet if they refuse to open their eyes and see reality. It’s only with their votes that the monsters come to power.

This speaks volumes! Sometimes better off marching to a different beat of the drum. I really like this Ken 🙂

We do seem to have lost the ability to think for ourselves, or even at all. Just lapping up “likes”. (K)

By now, there has to be a cartoon character, “Commander in Tweet.”

We shouldn’t let some drumbeats overpower our sense of what is right.

May we always hear our own hearts beating stronger than the leader’s drum.

That is so true, this is what life is, but too often deprived of even the flashy uniforms and funkadelic drum line… sigh. At least halftime has its compensations. 🎶
