Shades of Gray
Let me in. Don’t let me in.
Door after door, opening,
leading ever deeper.
Questions within questions.
The light in your eyes
telling me to enter,
yet offering no answers.
Shadows, hints, that tell nothing,
yet say everything about you.
All of this leading nowhere.
Nothing, but the next,
and the next, each time
leaving little to hold onto
but shades of gray.
This is my response to Thursday Photo Prompt: Open #writephoto
at Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo, with her photo.
Not easy to know the heart of someone who keeps the doors closed and the blinds down… Beautifully done, Ken.

The sense of there being no finality that we can envision, but that of always traveling. And Is there a final door? My mind can’t take it in. I love this poem.

Thank you, Claudia. Sometimes we wander aimlessly, even when we realize our efforts are taking us nowhere.

Love how your poem captures the agony of mixed messages. Shades of gray indeed!

Thanks, Merril. Looking at the photo, I asked myself what would be beyond the final door, and is it possible to know.

Good questions, even if there are no answers.

Some people, some situations can be so ambiguous. You really captured the feeling here…like traveling in circles of wasted energy looking for answers that never appear. A frustrating feeling.
