Graceful Exit
A quick glance my way,
the only sudden movement
in this stop action scene,
and the heron’s neck moves
forward, its legs bending
to launch that tall frame
as wide wings spread wider
in seemingly slow motion,
rising and falling in a graceful exit.
This is my response to Quadrille #78: Rise, the prompt from Merril at dVerse, which is to use any form of the word rise in a quadrille, a 44-word poem that does not require meter or rhyme.

Nice …You’ve created an image through your words. I could see the Heron bending and launching. Once, and only once, I actually saw a Blue Heron in our backyard. It was startling and beautiful to see so closely in the middle of a City. Thank you once again.

Thank you.
They almost look prehistoric in flight, yet graceful at the same time.

Yes. I know what you mean by prehistorical in look.

You describe it perfectly, but how wonderful to have the photos, too.

Makes me think of a slow-motion scene from the Planet Earth series. Nicely done.

Great shots of the heron, Ken. We have Great Blue Herons on a lake near our house. I just love those birds.

Lovely description of their beauty and flight. I watched one as it stood patiently waiting to catch a fish in a nearby stream. Fascinating creatures.
