recurring dream
lucid, this vision, my one
remaining connection
his face pale,
in shades of charcoal
fading, even as I wake
a blank page, waiting
for darkness to return,
the years erased
This is my response to The Secret Keeper’s Weekly Writing Prompt #175,
with the words charcoal, shade, pale, wake & lucid.

Strange. The words evoked the same sort of response from me. I like the fading out, like blurring the charcoal image.

Thank you, Jane. Once I saw the words, it just fell together.

Thank you, Jazz.
I wish I was better at channeling this energy without needing a prompt as a kick start.

Everything is a prompt, I think, in life, just depends where it comes from. The key unlocks the door? I like this poem very much, the sense of seeing clearly only for it to fade, again and again, and the role of memory and dreaming.

I like how Claudia said that. The poem has a dreamy feel that matches the subject. I also like it very much. The last two lines are poignant.

Very nice Ken… Is this poem about your father?

Thank you, Dwight.
Yes, I wrote it with him in mind, but the concept was inspired by the prompt.

I am guessing you did the great sketch as well! Very nice !

That sketch is part of a charcoal drawing by van Gogh. A link near the bottom of this post will take you to the original (full) drawing. 🙂

Beautiful. Those faces, even awake, become dreamlike. We can’t quite catch them, and yet they linger. (K)

Some say there are messages in dreams. Perhaps they are just memories?
Nice use of the words 🙂

And sometimes, the memories we wish we had.
