A Poem Has Its Way
Free from any association
with its writer’s state of mind,
this poem lives through the will
of a poem that held its own
writer captive for hours.
I lay no blame on Ben,
himself a victim of verses
determined to be heard,
or rather discovered by
this unsuspecting reader.
And with that discovery
was planted a germ, so that you,
dear reader, would know
its fruits, a missive announcing
little more than its arrival.
Inspired by Poems Lead Poets by Ben Naga.
Now that’s what I call (and appreciate as) a smart response! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m currently busy making what was today’s Meal 2.(Meal 1 was hours ago.) and now it’s become yesterday’s. But as Arnold Schwarzenegger said/says, “I’ll be back”. Don’t go away. (Unless you want to, of course …)

My response to your comment, entitled “Deceptively Simple”, should emerge in due course. In between I have sundry other fish to fry. Please bear with me. 🙂

Finished it today (assuming there aren’t revisions) and should be published some time soon. 🙂

Interesting perspective: victim of verses / determined to be heard
I do acknowledge a poem’s assertion and dominance in the process, but as poet I usually think of this as chosen, not as victim.

It is indeed a choice.
Even in my haste to get this off, I wondered about “victim of verses.” “voice for verses” would have fit well.

Line four, do you mean “held it own” or “held its own” ?

I like your response to Ben’s poem–that he said was inspired by someone else’s. The poems are determined to be heard, aren’t they? 🙂

Thank you, Merril. That they are.

The Real History. I was reading some old postings (and the accompanying comments) from several years back. One of my comments struck me as having the makings for a poem in current time. The Sarah referred to stopped posting on WP a long time ago and I hasten to say that her decision had nothing to do with my comment or indeed to do with me at all. 🙂
