Scarecrow Understands
They circle overhead, take kernels from the stalks that surround him, even dare to sit on his shoulders as he stands motionless, all the while wondering if scarecrow understands their jabbering or realizes they welcome his company. His stoic stand mixed with a determination to perform his task in spite of their belligerence is admirable to the crows, but they know little about the philosopher in their midst.

Aww, I think of scarecrows as being rather lonely, Ken. This one suited my image of their stuck on a wooden post with birds stopping to keep him company. Lovely way to picture the life of a scarecrow.
