Dam the tide of tolerance,
the hypocrites all cry.
Of course we judge your morals,
though we may not comply.
Judge then, if you must so judge,
your own sins to forgive.
Damn you, your intolerance,
our lives are ours to live.
This is my response to Jane Dougherty’s A Month with Yeats: Day Eight (each day a new Yeats quote).
“The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned” – W.B. Yeats
