the hush of departure

the hush of departure

the hush of departure

out of reach, the clouds
wisps about their feet, so softly

they tread, or take flight
on broad wings, passing

before us, distant, yet vivid,
long gone, yet always

in our thoughts, gracing
our dreams with fond memories

Less darkness this time, in my response to Jane Dougherty’s A Month with Yeats: Day Four (each day a new Yeats quote).

“…till the morning break
And the white hush end all but the loud beat
Of their long wings, the flash of their white feet.” W.B. Yeats

  1. We had a real cloudy day today, grey sky and little rain. While driving through a mountainous road, clouds were coming up from the valley, kissing the road. It was a wonderful sight. Now reading your poem brings back the memory.
