Jack is Back

Jack is Back

Jack is Back

Like a parting thief taking
warm weather and our breath
that crystallizes briefly in
the morning air, his fractal patterns
on windows, deck rails
and fallen leaves stay
long enough to wink
at the rising sun
and are gone.

Our parting gift the yellows,
oranges that fade too quickly,
replaced by weather
alerts, shovels and coats
to shield us until
the return of green.
