I Me Mine

I Me Mine

What are the times, when

a shoe on a shore
is a message lost on
the ears of people
clamoring to close
Exile, all the more tragic.

means no more
access to rights
than having
a board of directors?
Citizens, unite against corporations.

Rights are exclusive to
those unwilling
to grant them?
Equality is a matter of perception.

The health of a nation is
a bottom line issue,
with no concern for
those at the bottom?
As if three squares and a bed are enough.

As if a bed.

Sad times, indeed.

The prompt for Day 26 of National Poetry Writing Month/Global Poetry Writing Month from NaPoWriMo 2017 is to explore a particular object or place from the point of view of some far-off, future scientist. In this case, let’s say it’s a future social scientist.
* In 2010, in the case of Citizens United vs FEC, the U.S. Supreme Court gave corporations and unions the green light to spend unlimited sums on ads and other political tools. Unlike super PACs, non-profits like Citizens United (a “conservative non-profit organization”) are not required to report who funds them, removing any transparency from the process.
