        • I was here two years before I realized it was the oak trees. After 1 1/2 years, I bought this house in the fall, and the next spring the pollen on the deck was so bad you could sweep it. This is the third spring since then, and none have been that severe. One Benedryl takes care of it, but I hate taking any meds.
Also, I just discovered the cause of an allergy I’ve had since my teens. Eating fresh fruit – apples, peaches, plums, etc. (not citrus or berries) & nuts – makes my mouth throat and ears itch & my glands to become slightly enlarged. It’s Oral Allergy Syndrome, and apparently I’m allergic to birch pollen. With OAS, a person will have those symptoms with fresh fruit, or even other foods depending on the pollen allergy. It bothers me so much that I avoid those fruits, no matter how much I love the taste. In a pie? Now that’s another story.

        • I actually know about this because one daughter has it. She can’t eat apples, but as you say, pies, or having it cooked in any way is fine. She’s had it with cherries, too, I think. A friend is highly allergic to poison ivy and poison oak (more than what is typical), and also mangos.
