waves cling to the shore
art in a frozen embrace
intimate, but brief
here until the coming thaw
changing seasons take their toll

I loved the hidden surprises of Lake Erie in the winter — between the mini-snow mountains created by the plows, the melts and re-freezes — it was like a little winter wonderland. 🙂

The Great Lakes have interesting winter weather. Both Erie and Ontario have lake effect storms at their east ends if the lake hasn’t frozen.

Sometimes the natural world is more astonishing than anything we can create.
I really like these lines: “art in a frozen embrace
intimate, but brief”

Wow Ken what a beautiful tanka you share here with us. Nicely done, I like the scene you have painted with it. Awesome photo, did you make it?

Thank you, Kristjaan. Yes. It’s on a stoney, pebble shore. When I lived in that area, I would spend hours sitting and sifting out beach glass – in warmer weather, of course.
