the craft rise and fall
waves taking more than giving
their cargo scattered
yet here we spurn all strangers
in need of welcoming shores
Using craft and rise, this is my response to a challenge from Colleen Chesebro: Colleen’s Weekly #Tanka #Poetry Challenge #19: Craft & Rise.

It is becoming clear what we cannot do. I have learned through many years of benevolence work that roadblocks always arise (no matter who is in power). So the question we need to ask is what is the most helpful pathway left open to us. What is not an option is to let the people sink.
Light never needs to rage against the darkness. It just shines and the darkness falls back.

Here’s hoping the latest roadblock does not stand for long.

There are so many people saying the right thing – but are the right people listening!
You have said it well.

You touch a tender nerve in all of us who once arrived on America’s shore as refugees from war . . . Thank you!
