Dog Years
White paws tread a path that only she can see
Dreams of days when rabbits ran at first sight
When she could hear a rabbit before seeing it
When she could hear a rabbit
Or see it

This is sad, so sad. I think about my little one getting older. She’ll be 9 in April and I’m noticing little changes here and there.

Megan turns 14 in 2 days. Her hearing is shot and the best way to catch her eye is with motion, but she has some very alert moments and loves attention.

Megan is a beautiful name. Happy early birthday to her. I wish you many more good times with her as they come.

Megan is beautiful. Maggie has just turned 12 and the cold weather slows her up now. Her hearing could be iffy, unless she is just being ‘awkward’ and selectively deaf, but her night vision is definitely not very good so we carry torches on our final walks and make sure there is enough light for her to see inside the boat when we get home. Dogs amaze me so much as to what they can still do in their later years. Dream on Megan, Dream on. 🙂

Megan is always in sight – because if she’s not on her bed she’s lying right in the traffic area into the room. When I get annoyed with stepping over her I remind myself it’s just part of her herding instinct.

Maggie doesn’t like us to separate, and when my Mum used to come and stay, a three way split was impossibe as Mags was forever herding us up! Definitely a collie thing.

So beautifully sad Ken, dogs-often the best part of life, their company and unwavering love, priceless. Hugs to Megan, and to you. I feel this💕💜🐾🐾🐾🐾

Thank you, Kim. She loves attention, and when her true partner comes to visit (children aren’t always able to take their pets with them when they move on), she’s almost like a puppy, again.

Sad and beautiful, Ken. I remember you mentioning her before. I’m glad she still has alert moments. It’s sad when a pet becomes old or sick.

Thank you, Merril. She’s still pretty entertaining. She may have slowed down, but if she sees Sweetie Pie (the black feline) at her water bowl, she has to move right in to claim her territory, thirsty or not.

Thank you, Kerfe. Her hearing loss is just in the last year. If I’d taken this picture back then, as soon as she heard the shutter she would have jumped up to see what the activity was about.

I’ve been with her for five years, but have heard tales of her early exploits. Her decline has mostly been in the past two years, but her curiosity doesn’t wane.

Is there ever a friend as true as a dog?

Such an artful, heartfelt poem, built on pure dog thought.
Followed, like a human herd, by a comment/conversation of love.
I feel better just reading this today.
Thank you, K and all friends here.
