Chaste
With the turn of a key, confined now
Within my gaol of chastity
Last light filters through the bars
Father’s one concession
Our last, parting kiss
My lover’s face
Is fading
Even
Now
My response to Sue Vincent’s (Daily Echo) Thursday Photo Prompt – Glimpsed – #writephoto, with her photo, is a nonet.
Nonet ~ a poem of nine lines and a syllable pattern of 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, with rhyme optional
Belt, optional

Lovely response to this image….I did smile at the belt thought…optional you say?

Unless she can pick locks, Dad says she shouldn’t need a belt.

You are the nonet master! Beautifully done.
But daughters locked up by fathers or other men to keep them chaste is still an unfortunate and sometimes gruesome reality.
“Gaol” instead of jail was an interesting word choice.

So beautifully and calmly written about something so dreadful, whether physical, mental or emotional, yesterday or today- makes it even worse. I am still shaking my head at the horror. A very effective poem.

Lovely interpretation. I ,also, felt sorrow when I looked at this picture.
