Star of Peace – #PoetsforPeace

See that star?
There?
Through the branches
that move and sway.

It is peace,
never really out of reach,
always shining.

But this tree is the discord
that would obscure that star,
keep us from making it our own.

Our hatred and violence
are the wind that would
fan that tree.

There will always be discord,
so we must remove
the hatred and violence,
address it with discourse.

We must still the wind
to keep that star in sight,
and peace will, in turn,
be ours.

The five word prompts for The Secret Keeper’s Weekly Writing Prompt #45 are own, turn, shine, tree and star.
This poem also is submitted as a comment on Calling All Poets/Creative Minds to a Grand Collaboration – Poets for Peace at forgottenmeadows, where there is an open invitation (until August 31, 2016) to add your voice, through comments, to a running poem in response to escalating global violence.
