Textural Travels

grass
dry, tan and tall
brown fronds dancing
weaving back and forth
in the wind of
northern lakes climate

492.3
492.4
492.5
tenths on posts
racing by
miles on miles

vines climbing in rows
too early for grapes
buds weaving
through their lines

I-beams en masse
on piers
diagonally horizontal
bridging here
from somewhere to
somewhere else

powerful
metal giants
towering over terrain
wired one to another
marching to the horizon

trees
wanting to be green
ready to try
branches reaching
buds opening

clack, clack, clack
pavement seams
visible
audible

sumac buds
on bare branches
almost fuzzy

concrete
striated
wheels buzzing
humming

vertical lines in
horizontal progression
post after post after post
fences defining fields
needless of definition

south, then southwest
greener
brilliant green on
rich brown
rows on rows
on rows

gray, with
red, white
paint traces on
weathered wood
corrugated roof
ivy woven across
empty silos

mid-west
green on green
flowering fields

lattices
rising, towering
from cell
to cell
alive with voices
text
information

clouds
thick, gray
ill defined
to the horizon
and beyond

beads, then spatter
directional
road spray
streaming
obscuring
wipe, clear
spatter stream

grazing en masse
massive on four legs
across a field
meadow, pasture

taillights
red, round
diagonal glow

headlights
starred, flared
diffused by rain

panels
horizontal seal
lifting, parting
greeting
garage
home

Driving from Western New York to Missouri, patterns on patterns.

    • This trip was interesting, in contrast to my two January trips to/from Buffalo. Of course, there was the lack of greenery and the absence of white-outs, but having a traveling companion seemed to make me see things in a different way, as well as having someone to point out sights I might have missed.
