Between & In Between

Between

In Between

No need to remind myself to breathe
In the moment when my heart stops
My hold on life never light
In the space between beats
Adrift and at ease
In your embrace
A never
Ending
Now

The five word prompts for The Secret Keeper’s Weekly Writing Prompt #36 are drift, breathe, light, hold and life.
This poem started with a note – “remember to breathe.”  It didn’t take me very long to write a nonet, but when I was done I realized I hadn’t used any of the prompt words, so I re-imagined it with this result.
For those interested, here’s the original:

Between

Imagine my heart comes to a stop
Racing, while savoring each beat
The moments between the beats
Existing there with you
Within each moment
As we embrace
A never
Ending
Now

Nonet ~ a poem of nine lines and a syllable pattern of 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, with rhyme optional

  1. Fascinating and intriguing on several levels, for me, personally. First, the simple, moving, message and theme of paired love. Second, the pairing of photo and verse, both of which speak that theme, and echo each other in completely different media: one verbal, the other photographic/graphic. Third, the mysterious and neurological reality of cognitive functioning as evidenced by your process of writing and re-writing. Not last, but probably least, I talk too much, bla bla bla bla bla and, well, the heart, and hearts, are still beating….
Another lovely morning wake up call. Thank you K.
